What are Chicken Legs?
Most people know what a recipe is calling for when it says “chicken breasts”, “Chicken thighs”, or even a “Whole chicken”.
When a recipe calls for chicken legs you may think chicken drumsticks, but chicken legs also include the thigh of the chicken.
When the thigh and drumstick are left together, they are sometimes called the leg quarter (or hindquarter).
You can buy chicken drumsticks and chicken thighs separately or you can buy them together.
The leg meat on a chicken is usually cheaper than the breast meat.
Tips for Cooking Chicken in an electric pressure cooker
- Pay close attention to the cooking time on the recipe card, including whether to use natural pressure release or a quick release.
- For crispy skin, try placing the cooked chicken on a baking sheet and broil in the oven. If you don’t mind the extra step, you could also try crisping the skin in your air fryer.
- You can stack chicken in the bottom of the instant pot (don’t forget to use the inner pot!) Just be sure each piece is evenly seasoned if you will be layering. You can also feel free to cook in a single layer.
- You can cook fresh chicken or frozen in the instant pot – the cooking process is the same, though the cook time will vary.
- Be sure to add a cup of water or chicken broth to the bottom of your instant pot! All pressure cooker recipes require liquid to come to pressure.
Storing Leftover Chicken Legs:
- Store your leftovers chicken drumsticks in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- You can also freeze leftovers in a freezer bag for up to 3 months and reheat. This is the perfect way to have a complete meal on a busy day.
