What is the Main Difference Between Lo Mein and Chow Mein?
The main difference between these types of chinese takeout are the type of noodles you are using. For example, unlike Lo Mein which uses thicker, chewier noodles such as yakisoba noodles, Chow Mein is made with pan-fried noodles that are thinner chinese egg noodles, much like ramen noodles.
Also, the cooking process is a bit different in these chinese dishes. You pan fry chow mein noodles (you can even fry longer to get crispy noodles!) while Lo mein noodles are added at the end of the stir fry so they soak up the sauce and still have that chewy texture.
If you’re trying to cut back on carbs, try substituting egg noodles with spaghetti squash!
