Tips For Cooking Elbow Macaroni Pasta in an Instant Pot
It is easy to get a perfect al dente pasta using the Instant Pot with these simple tips:
- Make sure to add enough water, chicken broth, tomato sauce, or whatever the recipe calls for. This will ensure the pasta cooks through. Adding enough liquid will also help you avoid the dreaded burn notice!
- Add your uncooked pasta to the bottom of the pot.
- Turn your valve to the sealing position and lock the lid.
- Pressure cook on high pressure (check the recipe card for exact pressure cooking time).
- Use a quick release so your pasta won’t over cook, however always follow the recipe card for instructions! If you leave the pasta on natural release, only do so for 5 minutes (do not let this sit any longer or the pasta may overcook) and then manually release any remaining pressure. You don’t want overcooked pasta!
Can I Cook Gluten-Free Pasta in the Instant Pot?
Gluten free pasta can definitely be cooked in the Instant Pot. The main thing to remember is that GF pasta is starchier than regular pasta. That means that when it is overcooked, gluten-free pasta really doesn’t hold its texture or firmness well and is much softer and mushier than regular pasta. Therefore, the main rule with gluten-free pasta is DON’T OVERCOOK IT! It may also need more cups of water than regular pasta. Because of the extra starchy pasta water, you may get extra foam coming out of the valve when doing a quick pressure release, so keep an eye on that.
