Ingredients Needed For Our Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe:
- Flour
- Cayenne pepper
- Garlic powder
- Salt
- Chicken wings
- Butter
- Red hot sauce
How To Make Our Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe:
Begin by patting dry the chicken wings with a paper towel.
Then, spray the air fryer insert basket with nonstick cooking spray.
Now, use a large resealable plastic bag and pour in the flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and salt.
Shake it all together until they are well combined.
Double check that your chicken wings are as dry as possible (this helps them from getting soggy when cooking).
Then, add them into the large resealable plastic bag with the flour and seasonings.
Zip it up and shake it all together until the chicken wings are well coated with the flour and seasoning mixture.
Now, in a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and hot sauce until they are well combined.
Then, dip the wings into the butter mixture and place them right into the bottom of the air fryer basket.
Once the air fyer basket bottom is full, close the air fryer and set it to 400 degrees and the timer to 12 minutes.
After 12 minutes is up, open up the air fryer and use a tong to flip the wings over.
Set the air fryer again to 400 degrees and for another 12 minutes.
During the last few minutes open up the air fryer to check on the wings to make sure they aren’t burning.
Then, once they are done, carefully take them out and serve them with your favorite dipping sauce!

Are you newer to using an air fryer? I know it can be a bit daunting at first, but once you get past that you are going to love it.
Here are a few tips you need to know for this recipe (an other recipes!):
- Do not overload the basket, your items will not cook evenly or potentially all the way through. It’s better to do it in a few batches.
- You CAN open the basket while it is going! Since using the Instant Pot I was afraid to open anything while it was going, but with the air fryer it is 100% okay to do that to check on your food or shake or flip the food.
- To make extra crispy chicken wings, place the breaded wings (before dipping in the sauce) in the freezer for about 20 minutes and then dip them in the hot sauce mixture.

Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe
Ingredients
- ¾ cup flour
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 20 chicken wings
- ½ cup butter , melted
- ½ cup red hot sauce, (we use Frank's red hot sauce) + more for basting, if desired
Instructions
- Pat chicken pieces dry with a paper towel. Spray the air fryer insert with non-stick cooking spray.
- Place the flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and salt into a resealable plastic bag and shake to mix. Make sure your chicken wings are completely dry (this will keep them from getting soggy) and add the chicken wings to the bag. Seal the bag and toss until well coated with the flour mixture.
- Whisk together the melted butter and hot sauce in a small bowl. Dip the wings into the butter mixture and place in the bottom of the air fryer.
- Set air fryer to 400 degrees (preheat for a few minutes if needed) and then set timer for 12 minutes.
- After 12 minutes, use tongs to flip chicken wings over and baste with additional hot sauce for extra flavor.
- Set air fryer timer again for 12 minutes.
- Carefully remove chicken wings from air fryer and enjoy! We love to dip these in ranch dressing, but they are great as is.
Notes
- If you want the skin of your chicken wings to be even more crispy, stick them in the freezer for about 20 minutes after they are coated with the flour mixt*Recipe notes: Be sure to watch your chicken – sometimes it might take more time and sometimes it might take less time to cook. It isn’t going to hurt your chicken to open it up and check! Check the last few minutes to make sure it is not going to burn. We have also substituted buffalo sauce for the hot sauce and they were equally as delicious!
