How to Make Homemade Pancakes Healthy:
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it’s important to get a lot of nutrients and protein into your meal.
Starting with homemade pancakes is already a step in the healthy direction, but there are a few things you can do if you’re looking to amp up the nutrition for breakfast.
Here’s what we suggest for healthy pancakes:
- using whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour
- using low-fat or skim milk
- using almond or soy milk
- using Greek yogurt in place of butter or oil
- add in some fruit (we love blueberries, strawberries and bananas)
- using 2 egg whites in place of 1 large egg
How to Freeze Nutella:
Now that your pancakes are made, it’s time for the most important part, the delicious Nutella filling.
The trick to getting this filling just right is freezing the Nutella before adding it to the pancakes.
This might sound like an unnecessary step, but freezing the Nutella allows it to soften in your pancake without melting all over the pan.
To freeze your Nutella, cover a baking sheet in parchment paper.
Spoon about 1 Tablespoon of Nutella onto parchment paper and spread into circle about 2 inches in diameter.
Make sure not to spread the Nutella too thin, or it will be very difficult to remove from the parchment paper.
Next, freeze Nutella circles until firm, usually about three hours, but you can do this overnight so they are frozen in time for breakfast in the morning.
