what could i replace the caramel with?
If you are not a caramel fan, you could easily replace the caramel with any of your other favorite brownie toppings. Here are a few of our favorite:
- Peanut butter
- Frosting
- Chocolate sauce or hot fudge
- Raspberry or cherry filling
- Ice cream (but just be sure to freeze it).
Then add your desired toppings. My kids love M&M’s, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Sprinkles, etc.
what could i use if i don’t have a trifle bowl?
If you don’t have a trifle bowl, don’t worry about it. You don’t need to go buy one. You could easily make this recipe without one.
We recommend using just a normal glass bowl, or even a tall 9×13 inch glass pan. You obviously won’t be able to layer it as much if you use a 9×13 inch pan, but that won’t matter.
COULD I MAKE THIS RECIPE AHEAD OF TIME?
The only problem with trifles is, they usually need to be stored in the fridge, and they usually have some type of softer food or liquid to them.
When these foods get refrigerated, they can often go soggy.
I would say this recipe could be made in the morning and served later that night, however, I wouldn’t go more than making it a day ahead of time.
However, you could prepare all the ingredients, separately, the night before, then assemble it the next day.
I usually make my brownies, cut them up, slice up my snickers bar, prepare my filling, and place them all in the fridge, or aside, then assemble it an hour before my guests arrive.
I wouldn’t recommend making it too far in advance. Just the day of, when you plan serving it.
