Recipe FAQs
In full transparency, we are not experienced enough to feel comfortable to give a blanket substitution guide for gluten or dairy, as we know a lot of the time it can change the consistency and taste of many recipes. If we have successfully substituted an ingredient, it will be listed in the recipe notes. You may also find that other readers have successfully made substitutions for certain recipes and have made a comment, so be sure to check those if you have a specific question.
Most recipes can be adjusted for smaller or larger portions, with the cooking time staying mostly the same. If you’re adjusting to smaller portions, make sure you use the low end of the cooking time, and the high end of the cooking time for larger portions. Always check to make sure your food is fully cooked before eating. If you need help adjusting measurements, you can try a tool like this one to help you change serving sizes.
Absolutely! For the popular recipes that we have adapted to the Instant Pot or Slow Cooker, they either have the instructions for alternate cooking methods listed in the “notes” section of the recipe card, or an alternate recipe with a different cooking method is linked in the post.
Every week we send out a free weekly meal plan newsletter that gives you ideas of what recipes to cook depending on the time of year, as well as what side dishes to pair with them. You can sign up to be on that list here.
With more than 20 kids between all of us, aging from almost-adults down to tiny babies, we try to make our recipes as kid-friendly as possible. That said, our pasta dishes and simple chicken dishes are usually a hit with everyone in the family.
Freezing can be tricky, and doesn’t work on all recipes. If we have successfully tested a recipe that can be frozen, it will be listed within the recipe post or the recipe notes. If you want more freezer meal specific recipes, you can find them all here.
We generally link our favorite kitchen tools within each recipe, but you can also check out our full list of recommended tools and gadgets here.
Quick, family-friendly weeknight recipes are our bread and butter! You can use our recipe filter to find 30-minute dinner recipes on our website, or click here to have a list emailed to you.
There is nutritional information listed at the bottom of the recipe card of each post. However, depending on the brand you use for each ingredient and the accuracy of measurements the actual nutritional info may vary from kitchen to kitchen. If you want more accurate numbers, you can use a calculator like this one.
Please review the entire recipe post, along with the comments below the recipe card. If your question hasn’t been answered, please leave a comment or question directly in the post so we can answer it and allow others in our community to see it, as well.
