I saw a wreath similar to this on Etsy a while ago and when I went to look at it again, it had been sold! I loved how simple it was and I decided to make my own. And you can make one too!
Here is what you need:
-Skein of yarn (mine was 165 yards long and I used almost all of it)
-Foam wreath form (mine was a 14″ wreath from Hobby Lobby)
-1/2 yard of felt
-Scissors
-Needle and thread
-Hot glue
The first thing that you will want to do is wrap your wreath. I just put a little dot of hot glue on the back, glued the end of the yarn down, and just started wrapping. It took about 30 minutes (I went around the whole wreath twice). I used another little dot of hot glue to hold the end down when I was finished.
Next, cut your felt. I had three strips of felt: 6″x 24″, 4.5″x 24″, and 2.5″ x 24″. If you want smaller or larger ruffles, adjust the width accordingly. Lay the three strips on top of each other (the largest one on the bottom) and using your needle and thread, sew a simple running stitch down the middle.
As you sew, cinch your material so that it is ruffled (it is much easier to do this as you go instead of at the end because the felt is so thick and the thread that I used wasn’t strong enough . . . I suggest using the thickest thread you can find!).
Keep sewing and cinching as you go . . . it doesn’t really matter if the ends aren’t ruffled- but make sure that the middle is ruffled.
When you reach the end of the felt, cinch it as tight/ruffly as you want and tie a knot so that it will stay in place.
Now all that you have to do is wrap your ruffle around the wreath where you want it and glue it in place! I went crazy with the glue so that ruffle isn’t going anywhere!
The other great thing about this wreath- it’s super durable! Bring on the crazy fall weather!
