These Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies only require a few simple ingredients, and come out perfectly, every time!
My grandma always made a mean thumbprint cookie, and she made some pretty intricate desserts, so I always just assumed thumbprint cookies were difficult to make.
I finally got up the courage to make them, and they are so incredibly easy, I am so mad at myself for not making them sooner!
If you are a holiday cookie lover, like us, this recipe needs to be on your list this week.
They are simple, delicious, and full of sweet flavor (and not overly tart because you use Lucky Leaf Blueberry Pie Filling, instead of an overly sweet jam).
Our Favorite Holiday Tradition
Growing up with 6 girls, and our cute mom and dad, there were bound to be some good traditions and girls nights.
One tradition we started just a few years ago, was an ornament exchange. We would all randomly select an ornament (some were ugly, others were fancy, and some were homemade), and we would randomly exchange ornaments like a white elephant gift exchange.
As we got older, and more involved in baking and cooking, we decided we would all bring a dozen of cookies to share as well.
Our ornament exchange quickly became a cookie exchange as well. We would exchange our ornaments, then take home a delicious plate of Christmas cookies of all flavors.
I brought these Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies with Lucky Leaf Blueberry Pie Filling this year, and they didn’t make it home to my sisters families. They were devoured in minutes.
So if you need a new holiday tradition or something fun to do with your girlfriends, this ornament/cookie tradition is one we highly recommend (with the Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies of course).

Cookie Base:
- 2 cups butter
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 2 Tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 4 cups flour
Filling and Lemon Glaze:
- 1 (21 ounce) can Lucky Leaf Blueberry Pie Filling
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 teaspoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons heavy cream
How to Make Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies with Lucky Leaf Blueberry Pie Filling:
- Preheat your oven to 350 Degrees F.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine your butter and sugar until it is smooth and fully incorporated.
3. Once your butter and sugar are smooth, mix in your lemon juice, vanilla, eggs, and flour until dough is formed. (This will look like regular cookie dough, but lighter in color.
4. Chill dough in the fridge for about 15-30 minutes. I wouldn’t do it longer than 30 minutes. I also like to cover mine with saran wrap.
5. After chilling, roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet. You can line your pan with parchment paper if you desire.
6. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
7. Using a Tablespoon measurement (or you could use a regular spoon), make a small whole or indent in the center of each cooked cookie ball. Fill each impression with about a Tablespoon of Lucky Leaf Blueberry Pie Filling.
8. While the cookies are still slightly warm, make you lemon glaze by combining your powdered sugar, lemon juice and heavy cream with a whisk.
