recipe shortcuts:
I love my recipe shortcuts, because lets be honest, we are busy people. However, it’s nice to slow down when we eat, and enjoy our food and company.
But when it comes time for cooking, I like it quick, simple, inexpensive, and delicious. This recipe is just that, and we do have a few shortcuts to help you.
-This recipe includes a homemade apple topping. It is impeccable. However, I always don’t have a ton of time on my hands, so you could always use a can of apple filling, instead.
The thing I love about this recipe, is it is so versatile. You could literally put any canned fruit topping on it, and it would taste delicious. Here are a few of my favorite:
- blueberry
- blackberry
- apple
- cherry
- strawberry
-This recipe is already a bit of a shortcut, because we are using pre-made cinnamon rolls to make waffles, so this recipe is a breeze.
-You could make your own, homemade dough if you are feeling really adventurous. We recommend our Homemade Cinnamon Rolls, recipe. They are simple and delicious.
what are the best toppings to put on waffles?
I am a toppings girl, all the way. It’s not breakfast or any dish, if it doesn’t have toppings. I have a lot of favorite waffle toppings, so here are a few of the best:
–Caramel Syrup. You may think I’m crazy but caramel syrup and cinnamon roll waffles were made for each other. The sweet compliments the sweet, and you could honestly serve it with ice cream and it would be a dessert.
–Glaze. I love me some glaze on my churro waffles. Frosting would also work, but we recommend a thin glaze recipe. It will seriously taste like a cinnamon roll with some glaze on there.
I would add 1/4 cup milk, 3 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 2 cups of powdered sugar. Mix it all together with a whisk, and you’ve got yourself a glaze.
–Fruit and Whipped Cream. This is a waffle classic. It is also super easy to add to any waffle dish.
–Nutella and Strawberries. Have you ever dipped a strawberry in Nutella? Well prepare to have your life changed. It is delicious, but add it to waffles, and it becomes a dream come true.
–Strawberries, Bananas and Powdered Sugar. This is also a waffle classic, because it is simple, inexpensive, and tastes amazing. All you need is a syrup drizzle, and breakfast is served.

Cinnamon Roll Waffles with Apple Topping Recipe
Ingredients
- 12.4 ounce package Pillsbury cinnamon roll dough with cream cheese frosting
Apple Topping:
- 2 apples, peeled and diced
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup maple syrup
- ½ cup chopped pecans, or walnuts
Instructions
- Make the apple topping before making the waffles because they cook up so fast and the apple topping will stay warm while the waffles are cooking.
- For the caramel apple topping combine diced apples, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, syrup, and chopped pecans in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat for about 5 to 6 minutes or until the apples are very tender. Leave in the saucepan to stay warm while the waffles cook.
- Heat waffle iron and spray with non stick cookie spray. Place 4 cinnamon rolls in the waffle iron and cook for about 1 1/2 minutes or until done. (You may need to open slightly and peek inside)
- When done remove to a plate and frost immediately.
- Spoon apple topping over the cooked waffles. So YUMMY!
