Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it’s definitely our favorite. Anything involving chocolate in the mornings just makes my day that much better.
These double chocolate chip pancakes are like a delicious, thick chocolate crepe. We love them served with fresh fruit, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, or powdered sugar.
How to make double chocolate chip pancakes
Chances are you’ll have most of these ingredients on hand! Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 Tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 Tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
Before we get started on the recipe, make sure your kitchen is stocked with a large mixing or batter bowl, a whisk, and a griddle or large frying pan.
Start by sifting together your flour, cocoa powder, sugar and salt.
In a separate small bowl, beat together your eggs, milk, vanilla, and butter until well combined.
Pour your egg mixture into your flour mixture and stir until just combined. It’s okay if there are a few chunks in the batter. Over mixing will cause your pancakes to be super flat. Once combined slowly fold in your chocolate chips.
Heat a griddle or large frying pan over medium-high heat (about 350-375 degrees). Pour 1/4 cup batter on griddle and cook about 2-3 minutes, or until edges start to bubble, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Pancake Toppings and Mix-Ins
Like most of our recipes, you can easily adapt and adjust our ingredients to make them your own. If you have picky eaters, or even some non-chocolate lovers at your house, here are a few other mix-ins and toppings that go great with these pancakes.
- Bananas
- Almonds
- Macadamia nuts
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Shredded coconut
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate Syrup
