Father’s Day is right around the corner, so why not create the best dinner for Dad with this Grilled Teriyaki Burgers recipe and give him the option to grill burgers or make them inside and enjoy a tasty burger at home?
With a sweet teriyaki sauce and pineapple flavor, it produces wonderfully delicious juicy burger patties, topped with pineapple slices to make for a great Hawaiian burger.
These are also great for your next summer BBQ when you’re ready to get your gas grill or charcoal grill out for the season.
Ingredient Notes
- Olive oil
- Sweet onions, thinly sliced
- Sea salt
- 80/20 ground beef (ground turkey can work too for a healthier option)
- Ground black pepper
- Teriyaki sauce
- Pineapple rings (fresh pineapple or canned in pineapple juice will work)
- Hamburger buns
How to make Grilled Teriyaki Burgers:
- Caramelize the onions. Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a medium heavy-bottomed skillet. Add the onions, season with 1 teaspoon sea salt, and sauté for 15 minutes until soft and golden brown, adding water as needed to keep the onions from burning.
- Preheat the grill to high heat.
- Make the burger meat. While the onions are cooking, mix ground beef, 2 teaspoons sea salt, ground black pepper, and 1 ½ tablespoons teriyaki sauce in a large mixing bowl until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. Form the mixture into 4 patties and set aside.
- Grill the burgers. Place the burgers on the grill and cook the first side for 3 ½ minutes and 3 1/2 minutes on the second side or reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees f.
- Rest. Remove the burgers from the grill and allow them to rest for 5 minutes.
- Serve. Sandwich each burger patty between a bun along with 1 pineapple ring, ¼ of the caramelized onions, and 2 tablespoons of your own teriyaki sauce.
Storing and Other Tips
Store leftover hamburger patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat on the grill or in an airfryer.
