My kids love helping in the kitchen.
Even with all my different kitchen gadgets, we usually end up using a bowl and a wooden spoon to make our cookies because my kids love to stir. Haha.
It usually ends up all over the counter and half of the cookie dough mysteriously disappears, but I love making these little memories with my kiddos even if it requires a little cleaning up.
These oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are so soft and chewy. I definitely ate more than my fair share. We grew up with this recipe, and it was always the best coming home from a long day at school and my mom had these cookies made.
There was no better way to cheer us up after a bad day, or made a good day better.
The oats in these are what really make these delicious. You need these cookies in your life. And the memories you make with them, will taste even sweeter.

what could i put in them with the chocolate chips?
I love chocolate chips in my cookies, but every once in a while, we like to switch it up and add a few more goodies to them. If you are looking to switch it up, here are a few recommendations to put in the dough before baking them:
- Mini M & M’s
- Coconut Shreds
- Walnuts
- Pecans
- Cinnamon Chips
- Butterscotch Chips
- Peanut Butter Chips
- White Chocolate Chips
- Raisins
- Caramel Bits
- Craisins
- Pretzel Bits
- Candybar Pieces (Snickers, Twix, Milkyway, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kats, etc.).
could i make these without the oats?
I highly recommend making this recipe with the oatmeal. There isn’t a lot of it, just enough to make them thicker and chewy. I personally do not love oatmeal cookies, but the oatmeal in this recipe is only noticeable if you are looking for it.
However, you could make this recipe without the oats. You may need to add a bit more flour just to thicken it up a little bit, but other than that, this recipe would work fine without it.
