What should I do if my ham doesn’t fit in the slow cooker?
If your ham doesn’t fit in the slow cooker with the lid on, here is what you do:
Place the ham in your slow cooker, cover the top of it with foil, making sure the foil is completely sealed around the edges of the slow cooker, and no ham is poking out.
I usually do about 3 layers of foil, just to ensure no heat is getting out.
Then place a heavy towel (or even 2 or 3 towels) over the foil. This just helps ensure all the heat is staying in.
Cook for 8-10 hours as directed.
Should I use bone in or boneless ham?
You could use either. I prefer to not deal with the hassle of a bone in my meat, but you could easily use bone in.
Bone in hams tend to cook a little faster, so you may want to check on it after about 7 hours of cooking, just to be sure it’s not over cooked.
