After a week of spring break and warm weather, all I can think about is summer, and barbecues. And what better dessert to have at a barbecue than these adorable strawberry shortcake shish kabobs.
They take minutes to throw together and are definitely a crowd favorite.
what fruit could i use besides strawberries?
Strawberries are a great fruit for this recipe, because they stay fresh a little longer, than most fruits, when cut. However, there are a few other options that would work great with this recipe.
Here is what we recommend:
- Pineapple
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
You could really add any of your favorite fruits if you plan to eat them quickly. This is also a fun recipe to do watermelon with.
I like to use a cookie cutter, and cut them into festive shapes for the upcoming holiday.
what could i use instead of angel food cake?
We use angel food cake for this recipe, because it is a denser cake. However, there are a lot of other alternatives, that would work just as well.
You just have to make sure it is dense enough that it will stay on the stick.
Here is what we recommend:
-Pound Cake: vanilla or lemon would be delicious with this recipe.
-Brownies: I love making thick and chewy brownies with this recipe.
-Mini Donuts: this recipe works great with mini donuts. They are delicious with the crunch donuts, but I am also a fan of the powdered donuts, with this recipe.
