This Roasted Ham Shank Recipe is such a great way to make a boneless ham hock from the grocery store, you will not get a better ham with such a simple brown sugar glaze.
Prep. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and line a roasting pan with aluminum foil.
Prepare the ham. Place the ham fat side up in the prepared roasting pan. Whisk together the mustards and brown sugar and rub the mixture all over the ham (sides, cut side, top, everything).
Roast. Pour 1 cup of water into the roasting pan, arrange the ham fat side up in the center of the pan, cover loosely with aluminum foil, and roast for 1 hour 10 minutes (~12 minutes per pound).
Baste. 30 before the cooking time is up, remove the foil, spoon the juices in the pan over the ham several times, and turn the heat up to 425 degrees F. Cook uncovered for the remaining 30 minutes.
Rest. Remove the shank portion from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.
Notes
Place any leftovers of this ham steaks in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
